Teaching Certification Renewal
Once you have your Standard Certificate, it is valid for five years. To renew it, you must complete 150 clock hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) during each five-year period. A listing of approved methods of acquiring CPE hours may be found here.
You must keep written documentation of all of your CPE activities, including provider name, ID number, date and content of activity, and number of clock hours claimed. You may renew your standard certificate six months before its expiration date through the online system and pay all required fees online as well. You will be required to submit to another criminal background check possibly involving fingerprinting at the time of renewal.
Reinstatement of Certification
If your teaching certificate is not renewed, it is placed on inactive status. To reinstate it, you must pay an additional fee of $40 and meet the CPE requirements for renewal. If you are not fulfilling student loan and/or child support payment obligations, your certificate will be revoked. You must pay an extra $50 to reinstate your certificate once you are current in making your payments and have fulfilled CPE requirements.
