Oregon Teacher Certification Renewal
Learn how to renew a Professional Educator Certification or reinstate a Professional Educator Certification in Oregon
Teaching Certification Renewal
You will receive a letter on renewal procedures when you receive your teaching license. Renewal packets will be sent by TSPC to your Oregon employing school district about 90 days before the expiration date of your license. (If you are no longer working with that school district, it will be forwarded to your home address).
You must complete 3 semester graduate credit hours in education to renewing your Initial I license. If you wish to convert your Initial License to a Continuing License, you must complete a master’s degree program, have five years’ teaching experience, and complete one of the following options:
- A TSPC- approved college/university Continuing Teaching License program
- A doctoral degree in education
- National Board of Professional Teaching Standards certification
- A TSPC-approved school district program
- A TSPC-approved professional assessment
In order to renew a Continuing License, follow the instructions in the letter you receive with your license. You must show evidence that you have been employed in an Oregon school and completed the Continuing Professional Development Requirements, then file the Continuing Professional Development Plan form. You must complete 125 Professional Development Units (PDUs) following the rules posted here.
Reinstatement of Certification
A teaching license cannot be renewed if it is more than 90 days beyond its expiration date. You must re-apply for your teaching license. Contact TSPC at 503-378-3586 or [email protected] for more information.
