Learn how to renew a Professional Educator Certification or reinstate a Professional Educator Certification in Nevada

Teaching Certification Renewal

A Standard Teaching License is valid for five years. To renew it, you must complete six credits of professional development during that time. These credits must meet at least one of the following standards:

  • Be directly related to your current license
  • Be part of an additional endorsement
  • Be in a subject for which there are teacher shortages
  • Be taken as a program to lead to an advanced degree

If you receive National Board Certification, this counts for all six credits.

If you hold an advanced degree (master’s or above), two of your credits may be received by teaching or conducting a seminar at the college level.

You may apply for renewal nine months before your license expires. Use the License Renewal Application. You must include two completed fingerprint cards, official transcripts or certificates proving that you have completed the necessary professional development credits, and an application renewal fee. Send your information to the appropriate office of the Nevada Department of Education: Northern Office, 700 East Fifth St., Suite 105, Carson City, NV 89701-5096; or Southern Office, 9890 South Maryland Parkway, Suite 231, Room 23405, Las Vegas, NV 89183.
